A Happy Accident

Description

The Loana had turned out to be a mixed blessing. The incredibly picturesque meadows at the source, not to mention the hospitality of the two 'gentlemen' we had joined for a meal of soggy pasta, tinned green beans and grappa the night before, was a good start. Sub-optimal levels for the main river were not so much fun. By the time we had reached the town, patience was fraying and then, below a construction site, the cascades appeared. After the first fall, most of us praised the side security bolt on the Nomad's cockpit, which turned out to be a great place to clip a line in order to scramble out sideways up the shear punchbowl. We put on below to run the final slide-into-drop shown above. In the heat and frustration of the day I couldn't bring myself to banish the humid haze from my lens, lending a vasaline look to my photos of the fall. Jamie (in the photo) however took it upon himself to style the monstrous gutter above this fall too. (Lower photos from the Sawmill section of the Sorba.)
